About Canterbury Counsellor’s training & experience.

I have been a counsellor in the NHS and Hospice sector for over 20 years. Working largely with cancer patients and those with a life-limiting diseases, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges facing those with a serious or long-term illness.

I have taught extensively on bereavement and loss and have counselled many hundreds of grieving relatives throughout my career. You can find out more about me at Counselling Directory (https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/russ-hargreaves).

Whilst much of my counselling work has specialised in cancer, I have also worked extensively with suicide, a range of mental health conditions, sexuality and relationship issues. I currently specialise in working with parents who have lost a baby or child through miscarriage or stillbirth (www.petalscharity.org), and those bereaved by Covid-19 during the pandemic (www.sudden.org).

I am a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Senior Accredited Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor (MBACP Snr Accred). Trained in Integrative Counselling, I draw on my training and experience, using a range of techniques including CBT and Mindfulness.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I have moved my counselling practise entirely online and over the telephone, ensuring that all clients are protected whilst receiving the care they require. I offer video sessions using a number of platforms including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp. I can help you to get set up on these systems if you haven’t used them before.
